New Convertible S-Class for 2017

2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible Release

Just when we thought the life couldn’t get any better, Mercedes-Benz drops a cabriolet S-Class on us. Right on us. A convertible. Wind in your hair, finger in the air, buckle up your chair or you’ll fall out, kind of convertible. The S-Class has been around since 1971. Coincidentally, 1971 is also the last time the S-Class was offered as a convertible. It’s the flagship Mercedes-Benz sedan and now, after 44 years, it returns to it’s roots as a bald super-freak with a split personality, known exclusively as the 2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet.

2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet Trims

We don’t know why it took so long for the S-Class to take its top off, but we are glad that it did. The cabriolet model will be available in two different trims. The first is an S550 with a 4.7-liter V8 biturbo engine. With 449 horsepower, this S-Class will accelerate from zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds. If you are holding your breath for an AMG model, then your efforts are not wasted because there will also be an AMG S63 4MATIC Cabriolet. This model will feature a hand-built 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine with 577 horsepower. For the sake of comparison, this trim will hit 60 from zero in just 3.9 seconds. To put this into perspective, it is essentially a motorcycle that seats five people.

2017 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet Release Date

Here is the good news; we don’t have to wait a full year for this work of art. It will be making its first appearance at the Frankfurt Auto Show, which is coming up in a few weeks. Once we get through that, we just have to wait until spring for it to be available for public purchase. We will let you know when we have more information regarding price, so keep reading and try to prepare yourself mentally to pull up to the scene with your ceiling missing.
