New AMG 53 Series Specs

The 53-series’ new 6-cylinder in-line engine offers top-of-the-range performance and innovative electrification. The engine delivers an exhilarating 429 horsepower and a maximum 384 lb-ft torque. Other performance highlights for the 53-series models include the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and the AMG Performance 4MATIC+® all-wheel-drive system.

The engine’s EQ Boost start-alternator combines a starter motor and alternator in an electric motor that is fitted between the engine and transmission. The innovation was designed to enhance AMG performance and driving dynamics while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Achieving that goal also comes from the help of intelligent charging via an electric auxiliary compressor and an exhaust gas turbocharger. Due to these new performance innovations, the AMG CLS 53 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

“With the new 53-series models we are extending our portfolio in a first step towards a hybridized future with a leading-edge combination of sporty design, performance, and efficiency”, explains Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

The 2019 Mercedes-AMG 53-Series models will go on sale in the U.S. by late 2018.
