2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Off-Road Performance Specs

An icon reinvented, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class was developed with one primary goal—to redefine the quality of handling and responsiveness during both off- and on-road performance. The goal was achieved, as the new G-Class offers improved off-road performance while on-road it is notably more agile, comfortable, and dynamic than the previous generation. Improved Off-Road Performance

The 2019 G-Class received several of enhancements to improve the icon’s off-road performance capabilities. Elements like the SUV’s standard ladder-type frame, three 100-percent differential locks, and LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction help deliver outstanding off-road capability. The redesigned G-Class also features a new independent suspension system with a double-wishbone front axle and a rigid rear axle—an arrangement that ensures maximum ground clearance and refined off-road performance.

Thanks to the highlighted upgrades, the 2019 G-Class features a ground clearance of 10.6” to the front axle gear, providing maximum off-road performance potential. The off-road figures of the new SUV are listed below compared to the previous generation’s figures.

  • Slope climbing ability on suitable surfaces: up to 100%
  • Ground clearance between axles: 9.5” (+ 6 mm)
  • Maximum fording depth when driving through water and mud: 27.6” (+ 3.9”)
  • Breakover angle: 26° (+ 1°)
  • Angle of departure: 30° (+ 1°)
  • Angle of approach: 31° (+ 1°)
  • Break-over angle: 26°(+ 1°)

High-Performance 4.0L V8

The 2019 G 550 configuration boasts a high-performance 4.0L V8 gasoline engine that delivers powerful propulsion. The new biturbo engine delivers an incredible 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque at 2,000-4,750 rpm. The power generated by the engine is transferred through a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission featuring a torque converter that was specifically adapted to meet the demanding off-road needs of the G-Class.
