How do I know when the timing belt is going in my car?

One of the more important items in your car that is vital to keeping it in working condition is the timing belt. It’s important to keep an eye on it as you drive. So, how do you know when your timing belt is going? Let’s take a look!

Does my timing belt need changing?

So, does your timing belt need changing? Here are a few signs your car might be giving you that is a hint you need to check the belt:

  • Oil leaks
  • More exhaust than usual
  • Engine won’t start or misfires
  • Car stops working when you’re driving
  • Screeching when you idle or accelerate

It’s important to always check your owners manual, where you can find information about the upkeep and maintenance of your vehicle, and where you can find the mileages recommended to replace the parts in your car.
