Stay Calm and Focused: The Key to Managing a Tire Blowout

How to Maintain Control of Your Vehicle During a Blowout?

Blowing out a tire while driving can be a frightening experience, but it is not uncommon. It is essential to know how to react in such a situation to ensure your safety and that of others on the road. In this blog by Mercedes Benz of Scottsdale we’ll discuss some tips on how to control your vehicle when you blow out a tire.

  • Stay calm and focused: When a tire blows out, it can be easy to panic, but it is crucial to stay calm and focused. Take your foot off the accelerator pedal and keep your hands firmly on the steering wheel.
  • Avoid sudden movements: Sudden movements can cause you to lose control of the vehicle. Do not hit the brakes abruptly, and avoid making any sharp turns or movements.
  • Steer the car straight: As soon as you realize that you have blown out a tire, try to steer the car straight. Keep the vehicle moving in a straight line, and do not try to change direction suddenly.
  • Gradually reduce your speed: Once the car is under control, slow down gradually. Do not hit the brakes suddenly, but rather ease off the accelerator and let the car slow down on its own.
  • Pull over safely: Once you have slowed down, find a safe spot to pull over. Use your turn signal to indicate that you are pulling over, and do so gradually.
  • Change the tire: Once you have pulled over, change the tire if you have a spare. If you do not have a spare tire, call for roadside assistance.
