Is there a car that you can drive by just thinking? Not yet. But the Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR is one step closer to making that a reality.
Imagine if you could choose a song to stream in your Mercedes-Benz by just thinking about it. Well, that’s what Mercedes-Benz is working right now. The VISION AVTR Concept car is something out a science-fiction novel, but it is the first step in making real, earth-shattering technology.
The Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR is a groundbreaking concept vehicle, unveiled at CES 2020, that embodies a future where mobility creates a symbiotic relationship between human, machine, and nature. Its name stands for ADVANCED VEHICLE TRANSFORMATION, and it was developed in collaboration with the creators of the AVATAR films.
The design is radically organic, featuring a stretched “One Bow” silhouette and 33 multi-directional “bionic flaps” on the rear that can communicate with the outside world through subtle, flowing movements. Instead of a conventional steering wheel, a multifunctional control unit in the center console allows the car to recognize the driver by their heartbeat and breathing, forming a biometric connection.
A major focus is sustainability: the concept uses a revolutionary, compostable battery technology that is entirely free of rare-earth metals. Furthermore, its unique wheel design allows it to move sideways by about 30 degrees in a striking “crab movement.” The VISION AVTR serves as an ambitious showcase for Mercedes-Benz’s vision of ultra-modern luxury and zero-emission mobility.
