2017 Mercedes-Benz C63 S to Feature Wet Sump Hot Inside V Engine

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Hot Inside V

One of the things that makes the Mercedes-AMG GT S a driver’s dream is the hot inside V biturbo setup in the 4.0-liter V8. This aggressive engine receives praise from everyone who gets to control it, but did you know there is actually a Mercedes-Benz C-Class hot inside V as well?

Most Powerful Engine in Mercedes-Benz SUV

Hot Inside V

The term “Hot inside V” doesn’t really roll off the tongue, nor is it something you can notice with the naked eye, so why is it so important? Hot inside V refers to the physical position of the turbochargers. In this biturbo setup, the turbos are pinched in between the exhaust manifold and the cylinders. Placing them here instead of on the other side of the manifold does a few different things. First, it makes the engine sound like a Formula 1 race car. Second, it makes the engine more powerful and allows it to work more efficiently, despite the increased temperature.

Mercedes-Benz GT S

The GT S has gone through many different names, but until the GT R comes out, the GT S is king. It has no turbo lag, thanks to the hot inside v configuration, and is perfectly balanced from front to back, making it one of fastest cars around the track. This unprecedented balance is the reason why the GT S has less horsepower than its predecessor; it doesn’t need it!

Mercedes-AMG C63 S

This year, the new C63 and C63 cabriolet will be hitting showroom floors with almost the same engine as the GT S. The only difference will be one of lubrication. The GT S uses dry sump lubrication, whereas the C63 uses wet sump lubrication, giving it more reliability for every day use.
