How Does Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive Work?

Simply put, the Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive system works by correctly engaging and powering all four wheels to provide the best possible traction. The innovative system can quickly and accurately accommodate for sudden changes and variables without sacrificing any performance.

The compact and lightweight system works by evenly-distributing the engine’s torque to both the front and rear wheels. When conditions change, the system is able to instantly identify which wheel (or wheels) have lost power or traction and provide it with the necessary torque.

The 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive system is operated by a 4-Wheel Electronic Traction System which is able to determine your how much grip your tire has on the road. The system is even able to anticipate turns, giving the wheels on the outside of the curve more power.

The Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive system also increases fuel efficiency, thanks to its lightweight design.
