The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS is an S-Class Disguised !

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS Preview

As we move closer to the GLS release date, the internet is buzzing about the new flagship SUV. It is a replacement for the popular Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, offering drivers new technology paired with an already successful SUV platform. The S was added, not because the GL had been greatly improved since its introduction, but because Mercedes-Benz wanted customers to associate the GL with the flagship S-Class sedan. Once this decision was made, planning for a refreshed design began immediately after, placing the outdated GL-Class in a category with the M-Class and the GLK, which have been replaced by letters that better fit Mercedes-Benz nomenclature. This reorganization may seem dramatic, but especially in the case of the GLS, the replacement vehicles actually have more similarities with their predecessors than differences. Read on for a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS preview. What distinguishes it from the GL-Class and is it worth your resources to own one?

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS DYNAMIC SELECT

One of the biggest new features in the Mercedes-Benz world right now is DYNAMIC SELECT. It is a system that changes the way the car operates depending on driving conditions and it is slowly making its way across all Mercedes-Benz models. For the 2017 GLS, the standard four modes, Comfort, Slippery, Sport, and Individual are accompanied by Off-Road and Off-Road+, making for a total of 6 available options.

GLS New Transmission

Mercedes-Benz has always been ahead of the industry with its automatic transmissions. Because of this, we are not surprised that the GLS will feature a 9-speed automatic 9G Tronic transmission. Having more gears is advantageous because it makes the SUV accelerate faster, use less gas, shift more smoothly, and pull more trailer weight. For those who plan on using the GLS to its full potential, the GLS63 will still come with the famed Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission.

GLS Interior

Much of the inside of the GLS has remained unchanged from the GL-Class. Due to this, some of the buttons on the center console look a little outdated, especially for Mercedes-Benz. More aesthetic updates will likely come in the next year or two after the GLS settles in and sells itself a few thousand times.

GLS Exterior

The outside of the GLS looks a lot more modern than the GL. The lines look more crisp and the bulky front end make it look like it ate a GL-Class, in a good way. We also expect these changes to be updated further as the GLS makes a name for itself.
