What to look for in dog-friendly vehicles

There are many factors to consider when looking for the perfect dog-friendly vehicle, but we’ve put together our top five suggestions. See what you should look for in a dog-friendly vehicle below:

A wide, low hatch door – Choosing a vehicle with a wide, low hatch door makes it easier to load a bulky dog kennel without scratching the sides of your vehicle. A vehicle lower to the ground will also make it easier for your dog to jump in and out.

Removable or flat-folding rear seats – To protect your seats and give your dog a comfortable place to lay or a flat place to store a dog kennel, removable or flat-folding rear seats are the best option.

A large, boxy cargo area – A large, boxy cargo area has plenty of room for a large dog kennel, as well as additional pet supplies (and human ones, too!), without wasting space with slipped walls, wheel wells, or spare tires.

Rear climate control – A rear climate-control system is important to keep your dog cool after a nice long hike or a day swimming at the beach. Without one, your dog may have trouble cooling down due to lack of ventilation. Of course, rolling down the windows always helps, too.

A removable cargo liner – Removable cargo liners, as well as liners for the back of the rear seats, will protect the carpet in your vehicle from stains, rips, and dog hair. The removable liners also make it easy to clean the cargo area after a day of fun with your dog.
