2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE550e Electric Range and Charge Time

For the first time in Mercedes-Benz history, a plug-in hybrid SUV is available for public sale. Not only is this a first for Mercedes-Benz, but only a few other manufacturers have done this, and that is only because of the recent race for zero emission driving. Hybrid and fully-electric cars are all the rage right now, but exactly how efficient are they? Let’s take a closer look at the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE550e electric range and charge time.

How far can the GLE550e travel on a full battery?

When a car company says hybrid, it could really mean anything. After all, hybrid just means that it is something that combines two unlike ideas, materials, or technologies. As a general standard in the automotive world, it usually means that a car is powered by a gasoline engine and an electric motor. What is not standard is how much of the work is delegated to the electric motor and how much relies on the gasoline engine.

In the GLE550e, most of the work is done by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6, making 329 horsepower. The 85-KW electric motor adds another 107 horsepower. In fully-electric mode, the GLE55e can travel a distance of 20 miles before needing to use the gasoline engine or recharging.

How long does it take to charge a Mercedes-Benz GLE550e?

Using 240 volts, the GLE550e takes about two hours to charge. This is assuming the battery is completely dead and you put the vehicle in charge mode. Other companies have supplied fast charging options, but Mercedes-Benz has not commented on the implementation of such a feature in future models.

How fast can the GLE550e go using electric motor?

The electric motor’s primary job is to reduce the need for the gasoline engine around the city. This makes it perfect for trips to the store or driving to work. It can actually travel at speeds up to 81 miles per hour in electric mode, but it takes a long time to get there without having to use the gas engine.

The GLE550e is currently available in zero emission states, such as California. However, we do have the GLE gasoline models available now at Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale.
