2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV Test Drive
The automotive world is buzzing with anticipation, and here at Mercedes-Benz of Scottsdale, we are thrilled to share an exclusive glimpse into the future of electric luxury. Mercedes-Benz is, in fact, electrifying its best-selling model series, a move that promises to redefine the driving experience. The highly anticipated 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV is on the horizon, poised to set new benchmarks in innovation, performance, and sustainable mobility.
Mercedes-Benz Group AG Chairman Ola Källenius recently offered a captivating sneak peek at the new electric GLC. At the Mercedes-Benz Technology Center (MTC) in Sindelfingen, Germany, Källenius put the prototype of the GLC with EQ technology through its paces in a series of five rigorous challenges. This exclusive preview, shared in a recent YouTube video, showcases the vehicle’s distinctive design, versatile capabilities, and remarkably smooth handling. As Källenius himself stated, “The biggest product launch program in our company’s history continues with the all-new GLC. We’re not just introducing a new model – we’re electrifying our top seller.” This bold statement underscores the significance of the GLC EV in Mercedes-Benz’s ambitious electrification strategy. Check out the test drive video below:
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV is engineered to deliver an unparalleled level of ride comfort. For instance, the optionally available Agility & Comfort Package incorporates AIRMATIC® air suspension, a revolutionary technology derived from the flagship S-Class. This system, paired with rear-axle steering offering up to 4.5 degrees of steering angle, ensures outstanding stability and highly agile handling, whether navigating bustling city streets or cruising on open highways. Furthermore, the integrated adjustable damping system, also familiar from the S-Class, provides the ideal blend of ride comfort and sporty handling, effectively absorbing uneven road surfaces for a remarkably smooth journey.
The new GLC is truly the epitome of versatility and comfort. Building upon the beloved qualities of the current GLC, the electric model significantly enhances legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. Its generous wheelbase, extended by 3.1 inches compared to the current combustion engine-powered GLC, contributes to an even more spacious cabin. Moreover, the trunk offers a substantial 20.1 cubic feet of space, expanding to an impressive 61.4 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. Additionally, a convenient frunk (front trunk) provides an extra 4.5 cubic feet of accessible cargo space via touch control.
A highlight of the new electric architecture is the groundbreaking 800-volt system. This advanced technology optimizes efficiency and performance, drastically reducing charging times when combined with the latest battery generation. Imagine, in just ten minutes – roughly the time it takes to enjoy a coffee – approximately 161 miles (WLTP) of range can be charged. Indeed, DC fast charging at over 320 kW is possible, and a country-specific DC converter enables the use of 400-volt charging stations. The GLC 400 4MATIC® with EQ technology, which will be the first to launch, boasts an impressive towing capacity of up to 5,291 lbs (braked). Furthermore, its 220-lb tongue weight allows for the secure transport of electric bicycles and other gear on a suitable carrier, complemented by ESP® trailer stabilization and a trailer maneuvering assistant for convenient and stable handling.
