Open Your Mercedes-Benz Trunk With Your Foot

How to use Mercedes-Benz Hands-free Access

You’ve probably seen commercials for new Ford and Chevy vehicles where the overwhelmed mother uses her feet to open the trunk of her car. No, we’re not talking about a chimpanzee mother. Just a regular human with a smart key in her pocket. This technology is extremely convenient and futuristic, but it is nothing new for Mercedes-Benz. Many people don’t realize that Mercedes-Benz offers this on all of its vehicles. Keep reading to learn how to use Mercedes-Benz Hands-free Access.

Hands-free Access uses technology that is similar to the light above your garage that scares off ding-dong ditchers. It uses motion sensors to open the rear liftgate or trunk on all new Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Open/Close the Trunk

To open or close the trunk on your new C-Class, you first need to obtain the SmartKey. If the car doesn’t belong to you, you are going to have a hard time getting inside. With the key in your pocket, just slide your foot underneath the center of the rear bumper, and say “open sesame”. You will hear a warning chime and the trunk will open. To close it, reverse the process. Just slide your foot under the same area and the trunk will close by itself.

Interrupt Closing Trunk

There are a few instances that may require you to interrupt the closing trunk or liftgate. First, if you see your key fob in the trunk, you will want to get that out before closing it. Don’t worry about locking your keys in your car though, because if you do, you will be able to unlock the doors using the quick access pad on the driver-side door handle. To stop the closing trunk, you can either squeeze the trunk opener handle, press the trunk key on your SmartKey, or push the trunk button on the inside of the trunk latch.
