Is The Vision Van Powerful Enough?

Mercedes-Benz Vision Van Specifications

The Mercedes-Benz Vision Van was unveiled as a surprise earlier this week. Of course, we are used to Mercedes-Benz being active in the concept car scene, but we didn’t expect anything so soon after the debut of the Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6. Could this van be the future of urban delivery methods or at least a step in the right direction? We think so. Take a look at the specifications offered by Mercedes-Benz to see just how capable this van actually is.

Ready For An Electric S-Class?

Fully Electric Motor

Right now, Mercedes-Benz doesn’t offer a fully-electric commercial van. In fact, no one in America does. The implementation of this would make urban streets quieter and cleaner, satisfying everyone except oil companies.

Power

Electric motors are measured in kilowatts. The Mercedes-Benz Vision Van has 75 kW, which loosely translates to 101 horsepower. Of course, this is lower than the current standard for delivery vans, but not by much. It is more than enough power for city streets and the highway alike. Really, the only two problems it faces are range and cost.

Range

The range of an electric delivery van is a tricky topic because the distance can change dramatically depending on how much cargo is along for the ride. In this case, Mercedes-Benz has said that it will travel anywhere from 50 miles to 167 miles. This is less than the Urban eTruck that was released about a month ago, but the Vision Van has two drones to spread its mobility even further.
